The Horticulture Crops Research Manager will provide expertise and assistance to faculty and graduate students in the Departments of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, Botany and Plant Pathology and Entomology and other departments within the College of Agriculture. Overall management of field operations including implementing and maintaining applied field research trials related to fruit, vegetable and specialty crops at the Samuel Meigs Horticulture Facility located within the Throckmorton Purdue Ag Center. We have a full time Intern position remaining for the 2022 season. The position could run for 3-8 months, beginning as early as April, depending on availability. This is a good learning opportunity to work with a well-seasoned grower and small farm crew, gaining experience in all aspects of operating a small-scale (roughly 2 acres in cultivation) certified organic vegetable and cut flower production farm including routine crop planting and care, harvesting and marketing, and preparations for our annual farm tour event. We strive to maintain a fun work environment as we build appreciation and understanding for the ways in which we combine environmental stewardship with providing good food for our customers and our community.
The Farm Project Coordinator will be responsible for overall and daily planning, organization, supervision and administration of activities related to Community Hospital Anderson’s farm program. This includes designing and planning a working farm; overseeing the employee garden; developing annual budget; maintaining, harvesting, and delivering produce; and more. Products feed into many aspects of the the Hospital's work, including food for patients, cut flowers go to the gift shop, and beyond. In early summer 2021, the Bloomington Farm Stop Collective will be opening a new farmer owned, consignment based, local retail and aggregation space in Bloomington, Indiana!
