farm jobs: Mavourneen farm - seasonal landscaper, seasonal farm crew

3/8/2023

Picture
Since 2015, Mavourneen Farm has offered holistic landscaping services and certified organic plants & produce to the Bloomington community.

Our landscape work is focused on creating high quality, unique, beautiful, and ecological garden spaces.  We build fences and raised beds, install stonewalls and walkways and also plant edible, useful species that provide food and beneficial habitat.  Our goal is to naturally transform landscapes into diverse and productive spaces that help build resiliency for home & business owners.

Our farm specializes in spring plant sales and fall vegetable production.

Our production ethics are rooted in a concern for preserving the Earth, appropriately valuing food and farmers, and the creation of greater health and beauty.  We grow outside in open fields and in passive solar hoop houses, with the majority of work done by hand.
Positions
Seasonal Landscaper
Seasonal Farm Crew
**Note that these 2 positions can be filled by one person working 4 days per week or two people each working 2 days per week.

Job Description
We are seeking one or two motivated, hardworking, cheerful, and dependable people to join our small team for the 2023 growing season.  Crew members will work together outside to transform outdoor garden spaces, manage diverse habitats, grow a wide range of plants, and produce a lot of amazing vegetables.  We strive to create a positive, open, and enjoyable work culture, emphasizing mutual respect and good communication.  We will work hard, have fun, be outside, listen to good music, share meals, and go home tired and satisfied at the end of each day.

Tasks and responsibilities for these positions will vary seasonally and day to day, from landscaping in town to farm work out in the country.  Landscaping projects will specifically consist of plantings, stone work, fencing and raised bed construction as well as water drainage installations.  This can be very physically challenging work and will require being outdoors in varied weather conditions.  Crew members must be willing to listen, think critically, focus on quality, and be fully engaged in the workflow.

Farm work will focus on greenhouse seeding and plant care as well as field bed prep, planting, hoeing and hand weeding, harvesting, washing, and packing.  Tasks will require simple repetitive motions for long periods of time, as well as systematic thinking, and creative artistry.  How beautiful, consistent, and fast can you make 50 bunches of kale?  We place special emphasis on growing very high quality plants and produce. Crew members must be thorough, efficient, and detail oriented.
If you are looking to gain experience with holistic landscape management or organic farming this is a great way to get started.  If you already have a lot of experience and are looking for more responsibility, please let us know-- we are open to finding ways to incorporate other skilled people into our business.
